Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP)
Transurethral resections of the prostate (TURP) or of a bladder tumor (TURBT) are similar procedures, but they are performed for different reasons. Both involve the insertion of a resectoscope through the tip of the penis and into the urethra, and the resectoscope removes excess prostate tissue with TURP and a sample of bladder tissue with TURBT.
