These procedures are generally performed to improve the appearance of the stomach and surrounding abdominal area. Abdominoplasties enhance the appearance of the contours of the abdomen and usually require less tissue to be removed. Panniculectomies involve the removal of hanging skin that may be the result of weight loss or pregnancy. One reason to have a tummy tuck is to improve your appearance and self image. As part of the process, your doctor may also be able to remove skin with stretch marks. For women who have had c-sections, the surgeon can sometimes even incorporate a c-section scar into the one for the tummy tuck.
You will have general anesthesia for this procedure so that your body will remain relaxed and you are able to sleep. Your surgeon will make an incision between your belly button and pubic region in order to remove fat, skin, and other excess tissue. The connective tissue, or fascia, that covers the abdominal muscles will likely also be tightened. Before closing the incision, your surgeon will reposition your belly button as needed. The scarring left behind from the incision will fade over time and will also fall at a natural place just above your pubic region.
The risk of complications is very low. However, potential risks might include
removal of excess skin unaffected by additional weight loss a more toned and contoured abdominal appearance improved self image
