Preparing for Your Procedure:

Do not have anything to eat or drink after midnight the night before your surgery. This includes food, mints or chewing tobacco or liquids of any kind, including water, juice, coffee, etc.

You must arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home after your procedure and stay with you for a minimum of 24 hours.

If you wear contact lenses, bring a container for the lenses, or wear your glasses to the surgery center.

All jewelry must be removed, including ALL body piercing jewelry. It is strongly recommended that you leave jewelry and other valuables at home.

If you are having surgery on your hand or arm, remove acrylic nails and nail polish from that hand. Likewise, if you are having foot or ankle surgery, remove all nail polish from that foot.

For your comfort, you may wish to bring pillows or blankets for your trip home.

If you develop a cold, persistent cough, fever or any other health-related problems, or if you need to cancel your surgery, please notify your physician as soon as possible.

About Medications:

If you take blood pressure or heart medications, take your regular dosage as usual with a small sip of water. Ask your physician or the pre-procedure nurse about any other medications, including aspirin, which you take.

Prescriptions & Pain Control:

You have the right to expect appropriate pain control. We may not be able to get rid of all of your pain, but we can lower your pain to a level you can handle. Your physician may write a prescription for pain pills that you will use at home. The Yellowstone Surgery Center does not fill prescriptions; therefore, you will need to be prepared to purchase your pain medication at your pharmacy of choice.
